10" 78 RPM FRANK SINATRA WITH SPEECH BY H.R.H. DUKE OF EDINBURGH - LONDON BY NIGHT AND IF ONLY SHE’D LOOKED MY WAY.
This is the incredibly rare 1951 Columbia UK 10 inch 78 RPM release: cat no. LB 104, with Blue Label and Gold Writing. It was bought from new by my Uncle and has been cherished ever since.
This charity single includes a spoken introduction by HRH The Duke Of Edinburgh to the song ‘If only she’d looked my way’- a song from ‘Gay’s the word’ a stage show by Ivor Novello. As this was a limited edition release to raise money for the National Playing Fields Association, it is now very very rare. It was not the general release single from the same year. It is all the more collectible because this special recording is not to the best of my knowledge available on any other format. This is so rare it is not even in the Record collector price guide 2006. Only the general release single is listed.
The condition is VERY GOOD in accordance with the record collector guide.
The Labels are as near to Mint as you can get for a 54 year old record. There are no spindle marks and no scuffs.
The record has a few visible light scratches and rubs, which seem surface only and do not seriously affect the sound. None are too deep or cause jumps or loud popping. The surface still generally has a nice lustre. It comes in a ‘Sidney Scarborough’ (Old record shop in Hull) heavy duty card sleeve.
The sound quality is VERY GOOD, with some surface noise due to normal wear and tear. All in all this record is in fantastic condition considering it is 54 years old. It has obviously been cared for by my Uncle. Look out for more classic rarities on 78 coming soon !!! This 78 record will be double boxed and well protected for the journey ahead.
