Please see photos for more information on what is on this RARE IRAQI 78 RPM. Both sides feature an artist named Aziz Ali. There are some U Tube videos of this singer, and I found this passage online: "The singer Aziz Ali was born in 1911 near al Karkh. He finished his secondary studies at the Central Secondary School in Baghdad in 1931. Aziz Ali started his work at Baghdad radio station from its foundation in 1936, whereat he would perform his songs live as recording had not yet starting. The writer and thinker Hasan Alawi, author of “The mocking tune”, the only book written on Aziz Ali’s life, says the following about that period “when it is 08:30 in the evening, every Wednesday, flows the agreeable magic. Men at “Rajab” café in Karrada in Baghdad thus strain their necks towards the radio, their emotions stirred. For Aziz Ali is now crooning. His voice would make us one, us youngsters, with the men at the café. It moved us to its will, for we would laugh when it laughed and mock when it mocked. We would cleave the sea waves at his famous “The ship” monologue, while “the Doctor” would take us on a discovery of the ills of society. And when the precious minutes allocated to this artist by Baghdad station would end, we would repeat his monologues’ words while praise was copiously doled out by the men at the café…”
The record has the "His Master's Voice" logo with the dog and the vintage record player. The bottom states that it is manufactured by "The Gramophone Co, Ltd, Dum Dum" meaning this was manufactured in India. This 78 is in very well preserved condition in an album with textured sleeves as shown here (the sleeves were removed to sell the 78's), with perhaps a faint scratch or two, I'll grade as VG++.
