10" Vinyl Record 'Rendez Vous avec Sidney Bechet' Autographed Circa 1955. This is certainly a rare collectors item with an interesting back story. Knowing my interest in Trad Jazz and Bechet in particular a french friend sent me the record when I was in my early 20s. I had hoped to hear Bechet live on a subsequent visit to Paris, however was unlucky. Some weeks later after returning to my home town Wolverhampton my luck changed and I was able to hear him at a concert in the Civic Hall, supported by the Humphrey Lyttleton band.The highlight of the performance was when Bechet introduced the second half of the programme by leading the band marching from the back of the auditorium onto the stage to the Saints go Marching in. I had my record with me in the hope that I could get it autographed and was able to go back stage and get not only Bechet, but also Humphrey Lyttleton and Andre Rewelliotty, plus two other signatures of band members. As to the condition, the sleeve has suffered because I sellotaped a transparent cover to protect the signatures, and the tape has discoloured over the years, however its done its job and the signatures are as good as when they were signed. The record itself is fine and plays well no serious scratches. Not bad for 65 years old.
