Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 22+,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire. - USA - INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS - (2 x LP's)
- MINTY TOP COPY + Scarce Roky Ericson media article !! BEAUTIFUL 44 YEARS FIRST PRESS!
- Original TWO LP SET (4-sides) , custom art gatefold ...
- Absolutely jammed full of rarities, maybe issued as 45's, or issued not at all ... lost and found in the vaults of the legendary "INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS" label, Houston Texas, issued as a limited edition 44 years ago.
- So great, was reissued in the States and overseas ...
- This is the first press, (44 years ago) only this copy contains a hard to find long newspaper article overviewing ROKY ERICkSON of the
- 13th Floor Elevators, who among other legends are featured on this sprawling double LP (4 sides) reflecting the 60's "hot-bed" of amazing Texas garage-rock & psychedelic scene rarities culled direct from the International Artists masters... fabulous audio quality throughout!
- Brainchild of legendary owner of the Texas based International Artists label, Lelan Rogers scoured the vaults and released 4 sides filled with essential garage, psych & blues rarities::::
Lelan Rogers' double LP (FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTERS) features alternate takes, demos, rehearsals and rare tracks from the International Artists vaults. In addition to previously unreleased and demo sides from Texas psychedlia legends such as Red Crayola and 13th Floor Elevators (including incredible pre-Elevators tracks from Roky Erickson and the Spades), there are many fine cuts by obscure garage punk acts such as The Chapparrals, and a terrific cover of the Bee Gees "In My Own Time" by Patterns, not to forget The Emporer's killer fuzzed-grunge killer- "I Want My Woman" and furious fuzz screamer "Communication Breakdown" by the Inner Sense...
Elsewhere their are GREAT unreleased '67 era DEMOS by the Red Crayola (many of which would be re-recorded for their debut) are a treat. The radio commercial for the 13Th Floor Elevators' "Bull of the Woods" remains essential listening, as is Roky's spaced-out late-70s interview on San Francisco's KSAN-FM.
So what else highlights "Epitaph for a Legend"? Side one is of the most impressive of the four sides, showcasing a series of International Artists acts that never managed to release more than a single or two for the label. All (7) side-one tracks are great, featuring The Patterns, The Chapparrals (three Houston-based brothers), and the Anglo-influenced Thursday's Children coming out ahead of the pack. Scattered throughout the other three sides highlights include a pair of pre-13th Floor Elevator tracks by The Spades, and a weird and extremely psychedelic acoustic piece by The Lost & Found ('25 M.P.H.'). Side three is interesting for spotlighting some of the label's R&B acts - Big Walter, Dave Allan, and a brief part interview segment with Lightnin' Hopkins. In the printed interview Rogers mentions having recorded hours of conversation with Hopkins. Hopkins' stunning acoustic blues 'Black Ghost' also served to shame the rest of the performances. as mentioned above, but also noted is a special mention goes out to The Inner Scene for their spirited, if technically limited cover of 'Communications Breakdown'. They also deserved the 'guitar solo meltdown' award for the same performance. Real person award went to Sonny Hall for the outright strange sci-fi 'Poor Planet Earth'
