Description

Original 16" transcription recordings of "Screen Directors Playhouse" from Feb 1, 1951. Four 1-sided discs. These discs are original lathe transcriptions recorded from the NBC national network at radio station KGU in Hawaii.  "Take a Letter Darling" is a 1 hour abridgment from the 1942 motion picture comedy featuring the both the original screen stars and director. Rosalind Russell and Fred McMurray star. "SDP" was one of the last high production value radio drama series as the early days of television started to dismantle the popularity of evening radio entertainment. Ironically the advertising on these discs is for RCA televisions.  Each disc was spot checked on 16" transcription equipment using a 3 mil stylus at 2 grams. Sound quality is startlingly good with remarkable dynamic range and bass. Note these are fragile lacquer discs on aluminum cores and are subject to chipping and must be handled with care. There is no chipping present on these discs that prevents playing of the program. Also, Grease pencil has been used on the discs to show the radio operators where the commercials and dated information is on the discs, so as not to be rebroadcast. The discs are playable through the markings. 2 of the discs are missing their original pasted labels, but are show the original grease pencil markings from when the discs were originally lathed. The last disc includes the sound of the NBC 3 note "bell" signature sound. A true one-of-a-kind radio transcription collectors item. MP3 available to download. Shipped with USPS Media Mail.
