You are bidding on three 16-inch radio transcription discs of programs featuring Jackie Robinson:
THE JACKIE ROBINSON SHOW, 15 minutes, with interviews and commentary by Robinson. Program of 9/10/50 with an interview of the owner of the Philadelphia Phillies, Bob Carpenter, discussing his team and a bid for its first pennant in 35 years. Jackie also offers commentary on various baseball issues such as the “palm” ball pitch and the importance of experienced catchers for the league’s young pitchers such as Bubba Church. Very good audio with slight surface noise.
Program of 10/1/50 with an extensive interview of boxer Ezzard Charles, Heavyweight Champ of the World who beat Joe Louis days earlier on 9/27/50 at Yankee Stadium. Jackie also offers commentary about his own Dodgers losing to the Phillies in the tenth inning. The Phillies with this victory won the National League title and will now face the Yankees in the upcoming World Series. Very good audio with slight surface noise.
SLUGGER AT BAT, undated AFRTS program with Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese starring in a 12 minute drama befriending some youngsters who are playing sandlot ball. They teach the players baseball strategy and a valuable lesson to “think of the team, not yourself”. With Carl Frank as the announcer, story by Peter Lyon and Peter Steele, produced by Henry Krasno, music by Morris Surdin. Reverse of the disc is “Little Stories for Little Folk”, 15 minutes in very good sound, with 4 stories by Paul Wing, Storyteller and Norman Leyden & His Orchestra.
These radio broadcast recordings and others being offered are from the personal collection of a former sports radio announcer who had an extensive library of off-air and line recordings from baseball, boxing, horse racing, and college football, including interviews and sports programs.
