BEETHOVEN'S SONATEN
Contains 15 Piano Sonatas
These are:
Op. 1, No. 1, No.2, No.3
(E-flat major, F minor, D major)
Followed by:
Op. 10, No.1 No.2 & No.3
Op 13.
Op 14, No.1, No.2
Op 22.
Op 26.

This appears to be the first collected edition, being the earliest printing from the complete works series (Ref: Kinsky-Halm: p. 494). The first issue being 1828. Complete with Beethoven's authentication leaf.
Published by Tobias Haslinger, k. k. Hof-u. priv. Kunst-u. Musikalienhändler. Bound in Folio Hardback. Green cloth-backed paper covered boards. Measures approx. 13" x 10" (approx. 33.5cm x 25.5cm).
On each title page, above the imprint amidst brown decoration, is the following text:
"SONATE (key) für das PIANO-FORTE von L. VAN BEETHOVEN. # WERK (Opus Number) followed by 'movement' number'. Preis_45 x C. M."
Each subsequent Sonata's title-page bears the same, going up in numerical order (i.e. Nos.1; 1.2; 1.3, etc., up to 1.15).
The front dedication leaf states as follows:
"Seiner Kaiserlichen Hoheit und Eminenz dem durchlauchtigsten hochwürdigsten Herrn Herrn Erzherzoge Rudolph von Österreich Cardinal und Erzbischof von Olmütz in tiefster Ehrfurcht zugeeignet vom Verleger."
This dedication roughly translates as:
"His Imperial Highness and Serene Eminence the Very Reverend Lord Archduke Rudolph of Austria and Cardinal Archbishop of Olomouc, in deepest reverence from the Publisher."

Includes metronome markings.
At the head of first line of music of each sonata is stated: "Sonate de Beethoven. Geschrieben" and then the Opus number etc.
Old (English) pencil inscription to front pastedown reads:
'2 Guineas. 15 Sontatas (followed by an illegible signature, possibly 'Woollaston') Purchased at Vienna 18th Aug't 1847, at Haslinger's opposite the Station.'
Boards are rubbed and scuffed, with four small spots of old fixed paper residue, and a small indent to rear panel. Spine gilt a little faded but remains legible. Spine extremities chipped with small splits. One or two small holes to cloth. Partial cracking to front gutter, though board remains soundly in situ, despite being a little delicate. Partial tanning to leaf edges, and a lighter more even tanning to contents generally. One score has a small inscribed date to first page at upper left (see below). Some old marking at margins here and there. Contents remain clear and bright throughout nonetheless. Please see photographs for further detail.
