Up for auction is a rare one-sided E. Berliner's Gramophone Record from the 1890s--

Berliner # 042 "Uncle Josh In On A 5th Ave. Bus" performed by Cal Stewart

Date of Recording:  "3/29/99" (March 29, 1899) recorded in New York, NY or Philadelphia, PA.

Patent dates on label : Nov. 8 1887; May 15 1888 - May 6. 1890 ; Feb'y. 19. 1895 -- Oct. 29 1895

Condition:
I have listened to the record in full and there is 1 unfortunate skip heard, due to a blister in the groove towards end of track.
As with most Berliner's from the 1890s, this one shows small scratches, scuffing, handling and some groove wear. 
There are some small indentations or what may be called 'dimples' in the grooves.  Again, this is pretty common wear for these records.
The center-hole of record looks to have been adapted by a previous owner in order to fit their style or model of player. The center hole area measures roughly 5/8 of an inch. There is a smaller hole to the right of center spindle hole.
The previous owner kept these Berliner discs in a box with dividers, which has been stored away from the elements for several decades.

German-American inventor Emile Berliner invented the first circular (non-cylinder) playing discs with recorded sound in the late 1880s. These fairly flat-edged black, circular platter-like discs are more commonly known as records.
By late 1894 he had financing available for the E. Berliner's Gramophone Company, which produced the discs until 1899.
These historic recordings--- which are between 115 and 120 years old-- are considered extremely rare and collectible, with some being one-of-a-kind recordings due to the process in which they were recorded and duplicated.
