Bolz, Oskar, tenor, * 1.5.1875 Magdeburg, † 26.6.1935 Sopot; He first studied dentistry at the Berlin University, earned his doctorate and became a dentist. He then had his voice trained at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin and began his career in 1900 at the Municipal Theater of Olomouc. Through the Theater of Barmen, Aachen (1902-03) and Mainz, he came to the Stuttgarter Hofoper in 1905, where he had important successes as Raoul in the "Huguenots" of Meyerbeer and as Siegfried. In 1906 he appeared in Stuttgart in the German premiere of the opera "Siberia" by Giordano as Wassili. However, he went to further education in Milan, where he was a student of Lamperti and Sibella. In Italy he then gave guest performances at the Teatro Carlo Fenice of Genoa, sang in Madrid, Amsterdam and Paris. In Paris he was admired in 1907 as Herod in "Salome" by R. Strauss; He has sung this, his real starring role, more than 200 times in his career. After performing at the Hamburg Stadttheater in 1912-13, he sang at the Hofoper in Stuttgart from 1913-18, at the Stadttheater in Halle / Saale from 1918-20 and at the Stadttheater in Nuremberg from 1920-21. Finally, in 1922, Max von Schillings commissioned him to the Staatsoper Berlin, where his performance of heroic roles was highly valued, especially his Tristan, Radames and Othello. During his career he gave guest performances at the Hofopern of Vienna (1911 as Othello), Dresden and Munich, at the court theaters of Karlsruhe, Wiesbaden, Mannheim and Hanover, at the opera houses of Riga, Leipzig, Cologne, Frankfurt aM and Budapest and at the Komische Oper Berlin (1908). Among his stage roles were Johann von Leiden in Meyerbeer's "Prophet", Eleazar in "La Juive" by Halévy, José in "Carmen", Raoul in Meyerbeer's "Huguenots", Max in "Freischütz", Rienzi von R. Wagner, Siegmund in the Valkyrie, Siegfried in the Nibelungenring, Lohengrin, Pedro in Lowland by E. d'Albert, Riccardo in Verdi's Maskenball, the title roles in Der arme Heinrich and in »Palestrina« by Hans Pfitzner, the Turiddu in »Cavalleria rusticana« and the Cavaradossi in »Tosca«. In 1925 he opened a stage recruitment office in Berlin, but eventually took up residence in Munich. He died of heat stroke during a stay on the Baltic coast. - He was married to soprano Elsa Salvi. This was 1900-1901 at the Theater of the West in Berlin, 1901-1901 at the Municipal Theater of Barmen, 1902-03 at the Theater of Königsberg (East Prussia), 1903-05 at the Municipal Theater of Mainz, 1905-06 at the Wroclaw Opera House, 1906-07 engaged at the Hoftheater in Stuttgart and has lived in Stuttgart ever since. She appeared as a guest at the Berlin Court Opera (1901 as Pamina), at the court theaters of Kassel, Wiesbaden and Mannheim, at the Municipal Theater of Zurich and at the Opera House in Cologne. Her stage roles were there u.a. the Countess in "Figaro's Wedding," Eva in the "Meistersinger," Sieglinde in the Valkyrie, Undine in the opera of the same name in Lortzing, Norma, Valentine in the "Huguenots" of Meyerbeer, and Rachel in Halévy's "La Juive".

Quick note on grading:

The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately

When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an exceptionally quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a give pressing.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.

Multiple item shipping: I am happy to combine items for shipment in one parcel.

Records will be packed safely between corrugated cardboard in a sturdy box with plenty of padding for safe shipment.

Shipment is usually Media Mail, unless you request another service. Shipping is at your risk, I will be happy to insure items at your cost.

I charge actual postage plus a small fee for packing materials

MANY MORE RECORDS: Don't worry. I safely ship 40 - 50 pounds of records double boxed in moving boxes, and even then Media Mail will probably not exceed 35$.
