Kousnetzoff, Maria (Nikolaevna), soprano, Odessa * 1880, † 26.04.1966 Paris, she was the daughter of the famous Russian painter Nikolai Kousnetzow, including the a portrait painted by Tchaikovsky. It was first Balettänzerin and worked as such at the Imperial Court Opera of St. Petersburg. After her vocal studies, which took place at Joakim Tartakoff in St. Petersburg, made her debut as an opera singer at the 1905 Marienskij theater, the Court Opera, St. Petersburg. It belonged to this house until 1913 and was there as Tatyana in "Eugene Onegin" as Traviata, as Juliette in "Romeo et Juliette" by Gounod and as Butterfly spectacular successes. On 02/20/1907 she sang in the world premiere Fevronia of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh" on Marienskij theater. 1906 and 1908 she appeared at the Grand Opera House as at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, also in Berlin in 1908. At the Covent Garden Opera London she sang 1909 Mimi in Puccini's "La Bohème" and Marguerite in "Faust", 1910 the title character in "Manon" by Massenet, 1914 at the Drury Lane Theatre London Jaroslawna in the English premiere of Borodin » Prince Igor. " Huge success they had as a guest on the operas of Nice and Monte Carlo, where she participated on 17/02/1912 as Fausta in the world premiere of the opera "Roma" by Massenet, on 04.23.1914 in the of "Cléopâtre" by the same composer . In 1909 she appeared at the Manhattan Opera House, New York, 1916 at the Opera of Chicago (as Juliette in "Romeo et Juliette" by Gounod). She also worked as a dancer still, being inspired by the style of the great dancer Isadora Duncan. She created inter alia 1914 at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris (and in the same year at the Drury Lane Theatre, London in England), the ballet "Legend of Joseph" by Richard Strauss. During the years of World War I in Russia, she held on, there experienced the collapse of empire and fled after the revolution of 1917 under adventurous circumstances to Sweden. 1917-19 she gave concerts here with tenor Georges Pozemkofsky, where she performed as a dancer. In 1919 she sang at the Opera of Stockholm and Copenhagen, 1920 at the Covent Garden Opera London. In 1919 she participated at the Théâtre Lyrique de Vaudeville in Paris at the premiere of the opera "Taras Bulba" by Marcel Samuel-Rousseau part. Since 1920 she lived in Paris, went there first as a film actress and founded in Paris in 1927, the Opéra Russe. This opera company that existed until 1933, was very successful and has redeveloped the Russian repertoire for France as for the entire Western world. Maria Kousnetzoff was the prima donna of this ensemble, with whom she toured not only in Paris but also in Barcelona, ??Madrid and London, at La Scala and in South America. Here she created for the Paris Parasha in Mussorgsky's "fair Sorotchintsy of" Buenos Aires 1929, the same opera, and also "Snegourotchka" by Rimsky-Korsakov. In 1936 she undertook a tour of Japan. On the opera stage, she was celebrated as a singer and as a actress in this one boasted high musicianship, by which it established its sonorous and at the same time very flexible voice in their rich repertoire. - She was married to a son of the famous French composer Jules Massenet. Records: Early acoustic recordings on Amour and G & T (Russia, circa 1905) as well as Beka (St. Petersburg, 1907), then to Pathé, possibly even before 1917 recorded in Russia Odeon plates; acoustic and electric Odeon plates from a later period.

[Update] Kousnetzoff, Maria (Nikolaevna) in the years 1911-13 she was heard at the Grand Opéra Paris as Elsa in "Lohengrin", as Juliette in "Romeo et Juliette" by Gounod, Massenet's Thaïs as and as Aida In 1913 she sang at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, 1914 occurred at the Opera of Lyon as Salome by Richard Strauss, also at the Opera of Nice guest appearances. At the Chicago Opera she sang Marguerite in 1916 and the "Faust" by Gounod, Massenet's Thaïs, and the title role in the American Erstauffürhung the opera "Cléopâtre" by Massenet. (You did not occur in 1909 at the Manhattan Opera House, New York). The Opéra Russe was until 1935. In 1934, she replaced Conchita Supervia in Paris Lehár operetta "Frasquita." - Your Pathé recordings were made in 1907 in St. Petersburg, 1916-17 and 1920 in Paris.

When I listen to a record, I may also make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an exceptionally quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a given pressing.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.
