We know little about his schooling and his first musical studies. His father, representative in fabrics, often moved his family according to his prospecting areas.

Blanche Selva follows a young piano lessons. She was admitted in 1893 as a free listener at the Paris Conservatory, and then in prep school. It follows the freshman class of Alphonse Duvernoy, finally leaving the institution at the end of the school year in 1896.

The family settled in Geneva. Blanche Selva participates in several musical events in Switzerland.

In 1899 the family moved to Valencia, where, on August 8, it is presented to Vincent d'Indy who takes her under his protection and as a student at the Schola Cantorum.

The family moved back to Paris in 1901, she was appointed professor of piano at the Schola Cantorum in October of the same year.

It is immediately integrated into the "family Scholiste". The Schola, besides to offer Blanche Selva, in the person of Vincent d'Indy, an object of veneration, for it is an environment, through which she develops an overflowing Piano Pedagogy activity, music publishing and a solo career. In return, it is to establish a popular elite representative. In 1910, she gave her 500th concert.

Exceptional reader, fierce when it comes to overcome technical difficulties, it addresses the most difficult scores. It creates the works of his friends scholiste network, the first three books of Iberia of Isaac Albéniz (the second book is dedicated to him). It provides educational evenings during Tuesday night of the Schola Cantorum, all of the work for keyboard of JS Bach (on 17 evenings in 1904). It creates, among others, the 13th Nocture Gabriel Fauré, the Suite opus 14 by Albert Roussel, Sonata Vincent d'Indy. His repertoire is very wide, but it seems insensitive to the innovations of the avant-garde and severe dislocation in the language of music that are played in his time, and necessarily pass through Paris. She even criticizes his friend Albert Roussel, what it considers licenses in the harmonization of some of his compositions.

In 1913, she published a book on the sonata knows several editions. This book wants to be a "Study of technical evolution, history and expressive for the interpretation and hearing." But instead Beethoven as the fulfillment of history, framed by a sonata that would pre-Beethoven, and one that would be post-Beethoven. She subsequently published an abridged version under the title "A few words about the sonata."

Around 1915, she began writing a method of teaching piano (inspired Breithaup Rudolph (1873-1945), which is based on an extensive network in France, teaching piano and teacher training . Highlight of his organization, the Mas del Sol, near Brive, where she opened a summer academy in the year 1918. The company is running short, it will not affect professional and institutional. It published a newsletter "selvique the chain" that remained in its first issue. She is assisted in the dissemination of his teaching, especially by Cécile Piriou (wife of the composer Adolphe Piriou) and his sister, Catherine Cunq.

Blanche Selva is closely linked with the brothers of Castera pillars of the Schola Cantorum, and Déodat Séverac, which makes him share his regionalist ideas, who at that time a certain strength and sometimes anti-republican developments.

In 1918, Alfred Cortot gives it an interpretation class at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris he had just created.

In 1919, Guy Ropartz calls in Strasbourg to teach piano at the Conservatory. At the same time, she met the composer Václav Št?pán who introduced musical circles in Prague. After leaving his post at the Schola Cantorum, it ensures, in addition to Strasbourg, teaching in Prague between 1921 and 1924.

In 1924, under the influence of his collaboration with violinist Juan MASSIA (it may have been at Barcelona in 1911, with whom she plays in duo, she abandons his post in Prague, the lease terminates his Paris apartment and moved to Barcelona, ??where she opened her own school, while continuing his concert tours and supervise the occasion, the work of his French students. It punctually to work with Pablo Casals.

She leaves office in Strasbourg in 1927 and in 1930 published a biography of Déodat Séverac.

In 1930, she suffered a stroke that deprives it of its digital agility, despite a long rehabilitation.

She returned to France in 1936, during the Spanish Civil War. Located near Clermont-Ferrand, she dies of cancer Dec. 3, 1942.

The eminent virtuoso Blanche Selva we address the Mas del Sol a note that reveals all the artistic activity of the great artist and his collaborator Joan Massia.

Named directly after the war Higher piano teacher at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg, I was called, a few months later, Czechoslovakia, for a concert tour, during which France was warmly and triumphantly celebrated in me by his friends and allies the Czechs, Moravians and Slovaks.

Shortly after I was appointed professor of piano Higher (master class) and musical interpretation at the National Conservatory of Prague. For five years I have professed these materials there, with the greatest interest in the noble Czech nation for which I keep a very deep admiration and sympathy.

In these piano lessons, intended to convey my method of teaching and piano performance, I could train there several valuable professors, including the young Lilusa Novakova, (who made this winter a concert tour, very successful in France, where it is requested again for next year) is one of the most outstanding and one of the best trained talent temperaments.

In the course of public musical performance, specially dedicated to French music, I heard almost all of the most significant piano works, linking them to the orchestral works, chamber music, singing and the most characteristic of the French school drama, both ancient and modern.

It was at the end of that mandate teaching at the Prague Conservatory that I received from the Government of Czechoslovakia the Knight's Cross of the Order of the White Lion.

Finding myself because of the expiration of my contract with the Czechoslovak government, free to move, I used this freedom to achieve a long and secret desire:

French nationality, but Catalan race, by my paternal ancestors (my same name testifies) long, in fact, I had aspired to live among my ancestral home and socialize with the group of artists so noble if alive, if traditionalist and impulsive at once, which makes Barcelona for many years, and increasingly one of the art centers of the most open to the art world and to all new and strong ideas, to put a high ideal service.

Free so I went to fix my home in Barcelona, ??while continuing to exercise, as before in France and elsewhere, my teacher and artist activity, either alone or with violinist Joan Massia, with whom I associated there are more than two years, for teaching and for concerts.

Both our time is thus shared between teaching and concerts in Barcelona, ??educational tours in our groups of students in Paris, Lyon, Strasbourg, Marseille, Avignon, Nîmes, Bordeaux, Bayonne, St. John -de-Luz, Angers, Rouen, etc., etc., and concerts in France, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, etc., etc., and Summer Courses for professionals and amateurs, as j was based in Brive, in the small country where I was born and to which I gave later affection for my father's country, the Catalan name Mas del Sol (House of the Sun).

These courses, which have been operating for 6 years already, and regularly attend a large number of student teachers from all corners of France and the world, taking place every day for six weeks of summer. It was there that come to feed mainly professionals, the school year coming, are returning to their homes, distributing around them received knowledge, developing their own account and creating in every city In each region where they are, the true art of households where children and adults can also tap a rapidly developing a solid and beautiful.

In this teaching and broadcast around the world, I have already received almost 900 degrees of running various degrees and sixty degrees professor.

Besides the complete piano teaching, for me and my graduate professors, students receive my Summer Course teaching chamber music by Joan Massia and myself; violin by Joan Massia; music theory, improvisation and rhythm by Marie-Louise Bouet, Professor graduate of the Institut Jacques [sic] to Dalcroze musical analysis by me, and Gregorian chant notions by Marguerite Monier, Lyon.

This year the courses have ended in a demonstration called for by the municipality from Brive, in agreement with the French Federation regionalist, during a regional conference which was held in Brive, from 29 August to 5 September.

On 30 August, was held in Brive Music Blanche Selva day during which the morning, there was a demonstration of teaching at Mas del Sol and in the evening a concert at Brive Theatre; events in which many professors took part students, who came from various countries well.

Besides the teachers of various groups in France (Emeline Metz, a professor at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg; Marguerite Monier, Lyon, Marguerite Perre, Marseille; Andrée Vidal, Nice; Eugenie Triol, Nimes, Rosy Dupont of Bordeaux, etc. ., etc.), took part artists and professors from several more or less distant countries: Nonakova Libuse, Prague; Cobra Smaan, professor at the Conservatory of Amsterdam; Wiga Pozenel, Ljubljana (Slovenia), Ruth Hanak, US, etc.

In early October, I have to make a new series of courses of interpretation at the Strasbourg Conservatory, dedicated to the Sonata before Beethoven and Beethoven's Piano Sonata.

Back in Barcelona, ??we will resume, Joan Massia and I started our activity, including that of explained Auditions devoted to masterpieces of music in piano and violin and piano.

Each month of the school year (November-June), brings together in a delicious and traditional art room Parès the room, and collected a wonderfully enthusiastic audience, which I explained in Catalan, the main expressive and musical characteristics works we perform, conferences which are then published in Barcelona.

Last winter it was the Beethoven sonatas for piano and for piano and violin.

Winter comes, it will be sessions in honor of Bach. which we will play the highest works for each of our instruments (6 suites for solo violin, violin sonatas and piano, the Toccatas, Fantasias, Suites, Preludes and Fugues for piano), framed by typical works of French schools and Italian piano and violin and piano.

Besides this, the Barcelona concert associations, such as concerts Casals Orchestra (with whom I have to play my Lake of Witkowski at the end of October), "Associació dels Amies de la Musica" in many and so fervent audience, etc., have asked us again for our competition this season and various music associations of other cities of Catalonia.

Furthermore, concert tours in France, Belgium, Spain, Yugoslavia, etc., we are requested. And teaching in all our groups in France ... There is something to work again for the coming year! ... Not to mention the music education books that must follow and complement the six books of musical Teaching Piano Technique. There are Work Tables of Contents for correlation in the study and teaching piano, I have to write for a long time without success.

There are the basics of musical emphasis, the analysis works, the view accentuation, sentence completion and technical work, we must publish, Joan Massia and me ...

There are conferences in Catalan, lectures in French ...

There, there ... there is time, life is lacking to do everything, when we would like, and feel like we need ...

The Grade (Excellent to Fair, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately

When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to F), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an exceptionally quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a give pressing.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.
