Janine Weill, piano (Decca, 1930) + discography

Janine Weill (Paris, 01/13/1903 - 1983): French pianist, studied with Alfred Cortot and Marguerite Long piano and composition at Ducasse. She gained fame with her Debussy cycles, where she performed the complete piano works of Claude Debussy (Music Encyclopaedia, Elsevier 1967).

I've tried everything to know more about her coming. A round of Googling yields some loose fragments:

On 15-04-1926 played Janine Weill primordial version of the piano quintet op.72 by Fernand Le Borne (1862-1929) in Paris.

On February 19, 1933, she in Paris a concerto by the Dutch composer Jacques Beers (1902-1947), a pupil of Jean Huré and Nadia Boulanger, also held at baptism, along with Marcelle Gerar, soprano (to whom the work is dedicated) Jules Viard, saxophone, and the Orchestre Symphonique de Paris, conducted by Roger Désormières.

On 31-01-1939 Janine Weill in Glasgow has given a recital under the auspices of the French-Scottish Society of French piano music (as can be read in The Glasgow Herald): Rameau, Couperin, Daquin, Fauré, Ravel and Debussy was at program. She was billed as "The Ambassadress of French music". She must have had a nice career, for it is mentioned that when she played with major orchestras in Paris, Lisbon and the northern European capitals.

In 1947 in Scheveningen they got during the latter part of the piano concerto no.4 Saint-Saëns lost and had the orchestra play 40 measures alone, before she could pick up the thread ... This happened after violinist Sam Swaap earlier that night was equally at a loss ...

In 1969 published a book of her hand, called Marguerite Long, une vie fascinante.

Quick note on grading:

The Grade (Excellent to Fair, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately

When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to F), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an exceptionally quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a give pressing.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.

Records will be packed safely between corrugated cardboard in a sturdy box with plenty of padding for safe shipment.

Shipment is usually Media Mail, unless another service is requested. Shipping is at your risk, I will be happy to insure items at your cost.

I charge actual postage plus a small fee for packing materials

As always, I guarantee your satisfaction. If you don't like the item, just return it, and I will refund the full purchase price.

Prices below are for regular 78 rpm records. Up to about 5 records, I will ship Edison Discs for the same rates. Albums from Album Sets count as 1 record. Above that and for international shipments, it will be actual weight plus a small packing charge (1-3$ depending on size of shipment)

1 record: 4.75 – 5.00$

2 records: 5.75$

5 records: 7.50$

10 records: 9.50$

MANY MORE RECORDS: Don't worry. I safely ship 40 - 50 pounds of records double boxed in moving boxes, and even then Media Mail will probably not exceed 30$.

One record usually ships for 25 – 28$ for 10" 35$ for most 12" records (Less for Canada).

I can get SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER rates from FedEx and the US Postal service for any kind of parcel weight, and will make use of all the cost-saving shipment methods
