Description
Up for auction is the rarest of the rare. Four (4) 10" aluminum discs from Great Britain of Billy Town's Dance Band in 1932!!!!
PRESUMABLY, these are off the radio as most recordings of this sort of thing on aluminum discs usually are.
The songs are complete!! However, I hear no announcements before or after each song. To me, though, it does sound like a live performance.
These could be for different dates in 1932 or part of the same broadcast / session.
CONDITION: Rough…but playable. I would say V condition. Signal to noise ratio would be about 4 out of 10.
I was able to get all but one disc to track (see below on track listing for more details) They are noisy but you can still hear the music. The extreme rarity of this broadcast / recording from London far exceeds surface noise.
Remember, many of these were probably melted down due to the war effort during WWII, so the fact that any aluminum disc survives from Great Britain…with a hot dance band…from 1932…is nothing short of amazing.
