I am currently selling a series of great Richard Wagner and classic European 78 rpm orchestral recordings on all the great European labels:

JOSEPH SZIGETI - perhaps the greatest of all violinists (at least in my personal ranking) I cannot really explain it, but there is a warmness to his playing, a trueness to his emotions, and of course a flawless technique that touches me every time.

This is the early 1932 recording, not the 1946 remake !!!

on 5x 12" 78 rpm original issue blue wax viva tonal Columbia records with original album Set 177.

Condition: EXCELLENT, two faint scratches on 1, lam crack on side 8 2 mm into grooves, rim damage on 10 touches first groove but does not affect music.

Plays almost superquiet, with a faintest click at start of 8. Chip does not affect music.

Album is great, spine a little rough

A series of great Violin, Piano and Orchestra records on rare labels, from 1902 Monarch to 1940 War Germany recordings.

BEETHOVEN:  Violin Concerto in D, Op. 61  (British Symphony Orch/Bruno Walter)  Szigeti (1892-1973) was a patrician artist among bygone virtuosi of every kind, shape, color and size. His mission was musical expressivity rather than tone and technique per se, which is not to say that his interpretations were ever impersonal. He was a pupil of Jenö Hubay, Hungary's most famous violin pedagog after the departure of Leopold Auer for tsarist Russia. But friends of Szigeti, whose vibrato grew wobblier and whose tone hardened in middle-age, lamented that he began lessons too early—before an adolescent spurt of growth that gave him hands more suitable for the cello than the violin. When years of adaptive cramping produced excruciating arthritis, it was too late to change—unlike Menuhin, another child prodigy, whose problems were intellectual rather than physical; he was so fluent as a youth that technique was, in effect, the product of rote. Once he began to question why he did what he'd been told to do, Menuhin's control (of pitch in particular) became increasingly erratic. But he could produce a mellow tone, whereas Szigeti's suffered to an extent that caused friends to weep.

The Grade (Excellent to Fair, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects, like cracks, chips and scratches, are stated separately

When I listen to a record, I may also make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an exceptionally quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a given pressing.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.

Records will be packed safely between corrugated cardboard in a sturdy box with plenty of padding for safe shipment.

Shipment is usually Media Mail, unless another service is requested. Shipping is at your risk.

MANY MORE RECORDS: Don't worry. I safely ship 40 - 50 pounds of records double boxed in moving boxes, and even then Media Mail will probably not exceed 30$.
