Description

Here is a 1932 Victor test pressing with 'A RAINY DAY' by the Leo Reisman Orchestra. It is a bit confusing because the matrix number on the edge of this disc is BS-73770-1 but the Rust discographies say this matrix number belongs to another song recorded the same day and rejected. Rust lists this song's matrix number as 73764-1 which is wrong. This was released on Victor 24157.

Another anomaly in Rust - he lists the singer as George Wheeler, but a quick check of Kinkle's "The Complete Encyclopedia of Popular Music and Jazz 1900-1950" found that Clifton Webb is shown for that title. Apparently, the regular issue Victor 24157 with this song also credits Clifton Webb with the vocals. It looks like Rust's info showing George Wheeler is wrong, too. Webb was a Broadway star at the time and made three other sides with Reisman. Evidently these sides were his only recordings ever. He never sang in any of his 20 movies.
