This is the rare FIRST RECORDING with Igor Strawinsky conducting, done in his last year in France 1934 before his emigration to the US.This is one of the earliest records of Strawinsky as a conductor on record.
Symphonie des Psaumes is the high point of Strawinsky's neoclassical period, infused with the spirituality of Russian Orthodox Rite.

Serge Koussevitzki commissioned the work in 1930. Although the piece was written for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the world premiere was actually by the Societe Philharmonique de Bruxelles on December 13, 1930, followed by the American premiere of the piece by the Boston Symphony Orchestra on December 19, 1930.
