Condition: EXCELLENT, lightest rub, lightest scratch on Aleko, plays very quiet

Lyrical tenor. People's Artist of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialistic Republic (1947).

In 1922-25 studied in Moscow conservatory (class of G.P.Gandolfi), in 1928 studied in Germany.

In 1926-33 - soloist of the Harkov Opera Theater, in 1933-35 - Sverdlovsk Opera Theater, from 1935 - St-Petersburg Kirov Opera Theater.

Among his roles: Lensky, Dubrovsky, Levko, Alfred, Duke, Faust, Salavat ("Emelyan Pugachev").

Also gave concerts.

Solomon Markovich Khromchenko (December 4, 1907, town of Zlatopol, Russian Empire, now Novomyrhorod, Kirovohrad district, Ukraine – January 20, 2002, Moscow, Russia) – Russian and Jewish singer, tenor.
His vocal gift was first recognized as he was a boy in the choir of a local synagogue.Later, he was a chorister of the "Yevokans" choir ("Jewish Vocal Ensemble"). He studied at the Kiev Conservatory (1929–1931) under Mikhail Engel-Kron, and at the Moscow Conservatory (1932–1935), under Xenia Dorliak (the mother-in law of Sviatoslav Richter). In 1933 he was among the winners of the First AlI-Union Musical Competition in vocal category in the former USSR (Emil Gilels won in the piano category). Khromchenko was among the leading tenors of the Bolshoi Theatre.
During the World War II Khromchenko gave over a thousand concerts for Soviet troops. He was included into the selected group of Soviet performers to participate in the Kremlin concert of Victory Celebration in May 1945. In the Bolshoi he performed over twenty roles of the lyric tenor repertoire: Lensky (Eugene Onegin), the Indian Guest (Sadko), Bayan (Ruslan and Lyudmila), Vladimir (Prince Igor), Sinodal (Demon), Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto), Count Almaviva (Barber of Seville), Faust (Faust) etc. He was teaching at the Gnessin Institute since 1961; in 1992-2000 he was professor at Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem, Israel. He authored a handbook on vocal coaching.

Chromtschenko, Salomon Markowitsch, Tenor, * 22.11. (4.12.) 1907 Zlatopo (Ukraine); er erhielt seine Ausbildung zum Sänger am Konservatorium von Kiew bei Engel-Krom. Seit 1932 war er Mitglied des Opernhauses von Kiew (Schewtschenko Theater). 1934 wurde er an das Bolschoj Theater Moskau verpflichtet, wo er bis 1957 eine große Karriere durchlief. 1947 erfolgte seine Ernennung zum Volkskünstler der UdSSR. Sein Bühnenrepertoire war in erster Linie im lyrischen Fachbereich beheimatet; er sang Partien wie den Lenski im »Eugen Onegin«, den Wladimir in »Fürst Igor« von Borodin, den Hindu-Kaufmann in »Sadko« von Rimsky-Korssakow, den Levko in dessen »Mainacht«, den Grafen Almaviva im »Barbier von Sevilla«, den Don Ottavio im »Don Giovanni« und den Gérald in »Lakmé« von Delibes. Neben seinem Wirken auf der Bühne, das sich auch auf Gastspiele innerhalb der Sowjetunion erstreckte, war er ein geschätzter Konzert- und Liedersänger. Auf der Bühne wie auf dem Konzertpodium erregte er durch die Klarheit seiner Diktion und durch den Ausdrucksreichtum seiner Stimme Aufsehen.

Quick note on grading:

The Grade (Excellent to Fair, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately, when prefaced with "HOWEVER" or "BUT" they will be significant.

When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to F), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an exceptionally quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a give pressing.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.

MANY MORE RECORDS: Don't worry. I safely ship 40 - 50 pounds of records double boxed in moving boxes, and even then Media Mail will probably not exceed 30$.
