1940 Iowa Hawkeye Homecoming Football Mike McKinley at Iowa U song WR Law record

        This is an auction for a hard to find record called " Mike McKinley at Iowa U" the song was written by W.R.  Law who wrote Iowa's Official Fight Song "On Iowa."

   What I love about this record is all the ties to Iowa Football! The song was presented at the 1940 Iowa Homecoming, written by the person who wrote "On Iowa," Iowa's official Fight Song, written for Mike McKinley who played football for Iowa in 1894, Mike McKinley helped convince Duke Slater to come to Iowa and in the article Mike McKinley encouraged WR Law to fight his illness and mentions the 1939 Ironmen!

   According to an article included: " When the State University of Iowa celebrated its annual Homecoming last Saturday, the 42,000 spectators at the Iowa-Purdue game heard a new song played by the 200-piece university band. " Mike McKinley of Iowa U," which was dedicated to Judge Michael McKinley..."

        WR Law wrote the music and words for Mike McKinley who played for the Hawkeyes in 1893 and 1894! Mike McKinley later became a judge and was always a loyal University of Iowa supporter! 

    Included is a Postville Article from Nov. 6th, 1940, although the paper with the article has a date of Oct 25, 1940, I found the article online and it was dated Nov 6th, 1940.  According to the article Mike McKinley had visited W R Law when he was sick and told him Iowa Fights! He also mentions how the Iron Men team of 1939 always kept on fighting. His encouragement helped WR Law get better.

   I am not sure when the record album was made, but I am guessing the 1940s and it was performed by the Alexander Trio and Caesar Petrillo and Orchestra PC-411-1. I bought this awhile ago at one of the University of Iowa Surplus sale. There were a bunch of other marching band records, so I assume the University of Iowa Marching Band digitized the records and then sold them or just decided they didn't need the record anymore!

     The record is one sided and is in excellent condition, with maybe a small scratch or two. It seems to play well, but I am not 100% sure what speed the record is suppose to be played at. The record is music only, but if you check below you will see the words to the song!
