Description

"Symphony Replacement" radio show transcription discs produced by The Armed Forces Radio Service.  One complete 55 minute radio program on these two 16 inch, vinyl, 33 1/3 rpm discs.  These discs were issued to radio stations for broadcast to U. S. troops serving overseas during World War Two and not available to the general public, very rare!

The title of this program is "Canadian Music In Wartime" and is described by the announcer as "a concert of music of unusual interest featuring works by Canadian composers"

Dates of September 21, 1944, September 28, 1944 and October 5, 1944 are imprinted around the label, so this program was most likely assembled from multiple broadcasts

Program features music by both The CBC Symphony Orchestra of Montreal conducted by Jean-Marie Beaudet and The CBC Symphony Orchestra of Vancouver conducted by Athur Benjamin.

The CBC Symphony Orchestra of Montreal conducted by Jean-Marie Beaudet performs:

1. "Charpente: Canadian Forest" by Maurice Blackburn

2. "War And Peace" by Alexander BrottThe announcer states: "And Now, The First Performance Anywhere of Alexander Brott's Symphonic Poem 'War And Peace'"

The CBC Symphony of Vancouver conducted by Arthur Benjamin performs:

3. "Suite For Strings" by Robert Fleming (it is stated that Robert Fleming was currently serving with The Royal Canadian Air Force)

4. "Evocation" by Claude Champagne

Discs are in Excellent- Condition with Excellent- Sound, beautiful discs from a collection that has sat untouched for decades

Please note that most standard turntables will not play 16 inch radio transcriptions due to their size.  For $10 I can make a CD copy of both discs for the buyer only
