Description

Columbia Broadcasting Corp. - Electrical Transcription - 78 rpm 10" Vinyl Record # P-35481 / P35481 - Titled: Greetings 1945 - From The Bill Henrys - Parts I & II - original special pressing of a 1945 Holiday Season Greetings from LA Times Journalist & CBS / Columbia Broadcaster / War Correspondent Bill Henry. This record was sent to a friend or family member of Mr. Henry's & highlights the events of 1945 concerning the end of WWII & VE / VJ Days on Side I. Side II contains Mr. Henry's August 14, 1945 original report / announcement of the Japanese surrender carried over the Columbia network. Mr. Henry's broadcast may have been the very first announcement to the public. Both August 15th & September 2nd 1945 are now considered to be VJ Day. Bill Henry led a very interesting life & continued to write for the Los Angeles Times until his death in 1970 at age 80. Shortly before his death, Mr. Henry was announced as a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States.

Record visually grades VG to VG+ w/ some light scuffs & scratches - it plays closer to VG+ on my lo-fi system. Labels show very light spindle marks (see pics).
