Description
Offered here is a blues classic album featuring Josh White - JOSH WHITE SINGS. This album is an actual first pressing presented in microgroove LP format for the 10" Mercury label record 25014. This is one of the first LP records issued by Mercury. And, it comes with the original sleeve. It has the label viewing hole in the center much like the 'standard' 78 rpm record sleeves of the period.
Later versions of this LP by Mercury/EmArcy called this album STRANGE FRUIT. This is simply JOSH WHITE SINGS. Later versions of this album have original art for the album cover. This is an earlier version than that was issued in the early 'generic' sleeve for Mercury's first LPs which includes a viewing hole in the center like the old 78 rpm record sleeves. This record label has the early yellow tinted text, later versions show silver colored text. This label was issued from late 1949 to mid 1951, and that's it. After that, it was modified in the ways described above. All in all, this is an extremely rare first LP pressing of a great album that has subsequently been reissued on every new media available up to and including CD's, under many labels. You're not likely to see this again any time soon.
