Description
This is for a copy of the extraordinarily scarce 1954 10" 78 RPM record featuring the song "Whale of a Tale," by Kirk Douglas and the Mellomen, which was featured in the Walt Disney film, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. B-side song is "And the Moon Grew Brighter and Brighter," also by Kirk Douglas and the Mellomen. Issued on Decca Records and is catalog #K-148. Paper jacket has light creasing to upper and lower right sides. The glue on the right and left seams has given, and so these sides are not connected (but could easily be re-glued. Please note that the side seams are not split -- just the glue has come loose). Bottom seam has some splitting. One side of the paper sleeve has a scratch near the end of Douglas' guitar (see photo). That same side also has what looks like an edge tear on the left side, but it's not torn through.
Vinyl shows scuffing and scratching. On the Whale of a Tale side, there is an area that is very scuffed, and you can feel it with your finger. I did play this with a regular stylus to make sure there were no skips or spots where the needle stuck, and there were not - it played through fine, but there are pops on this part that you can feel. With a regular stylus, it was a little muffly and had surface noise. It should be better with a proper 78 stylus, but it will still have surface noise, and I'm sure those previously mentioned pops.
