Here is a MEGA RARE Elvis Presley 45 rpm & vintage songbook from my collection offered up for sale: An authentic ORIGINAL 1955 Elvis Presley SUN 45 RPM "Baby Let's Play House" / I'm Left You're Right She's Gone on Sun Records 217. This record is ranked 558 out of 1,000 records, according to record expert and author Jerry Osbourne's book "The Money Records, The 1,000 Most Valuable Records", and has a book value of $800 - $1,100. This rare single is important because it was released when Elvis was a relatively unknown yet up & coming U.S. artist. Recorded by Sam Philips at his small recording studio in Memphis Tennessee, Elvis would soon sign with RCA and would soar to mega stardom! Elvis only released singles at Sun and never released an album while at Sun records. NOTE: there are MANY REISSUES and FAKES of this 45 are out there. This original 1955 Sun 45 has the "push marks" only found on the original pressings. Included is a vintage Sun records 45 sleeve not original to this record but a cool original historic 1950's period sleeve, an AUTHENTIC original!
The vinyl record rates VG/VG+, is glossy clean, has only light marks and sleeve wear, nothing heavy, has been PLAY TESTED! Plays with very good sound quality, clear sound, some errant light pops, overall a very enjoyable listen! No skips, no jumps, no heavy pops! The hand etched DEADWAX READS: side one: 4-142-45 72 and side two: 4-143-45 2 72. The labels have a couple pen marks. According to Jerry Osborne's Record Guide, book value from $800 to $1200 for this 45 alone!
PLUS: included in this auction is a very RARE ELVIS 36 page songbook,"The Elvis Presley Album of Juke Box Favorites" for guitar and piano, released simultaneous with Elvis' first album in 1956 by Hill and Range Songs Inc. The cover features a photo used on Elvis's debut RCA album "Elvis Presley" on RCA LPM-1254. The songbook is copyrighted 1956 at the release of his first RCA Lp but features many of the songs featured on his Sun records 45's!!( "That's All Right", "Mystery Train", "I'm left you're right she's gone","Blue suede shoes" (written by Sun artist Carl Perkins),and other rare sun recordings that were part of Elvis' stage show material!!. The songbook features some candid photos of young Elvis. Interestingly, it mentions how Elvis still drives to his gigs in his pink Cadillac.(imagine that! -not for long!). Further study might pinpoint the actual release date of the songbook: The book mentions Elvis' appearance on the Jackie Gleason show but makes NO reference to his appearance on the Dorsey brothers show and most importantly NO MENTION of Elvis's famed appearances on the Ed Sullivan show!! The inside cover notes that Hollywood has come calling and predicts Elvis in film but no mention of the 1956 smash film "Love me Tender"!!
The booklet is clean and bright, cover has a vintage store stamp, all interior pages are super clean with only a bit of age discoloration at edges, binder is intact and there are no pages missing, there are a couple small tears at the staples, the cover page has partial split, has some light pencil writing (barely noticeable), back has a bit of a water mark on back at top, all pages and photos inside are clean and bright! The inside cover has an advertisement: "Join the Elvis Presley Fan Club" with a Madison Wisconsin address plus a great biography
