1956 Uk Esquire Phil Woods & Donald Byrd Pairing off with Kenny Dorham. Esquire 32-026 with RVG hand etched, showing this to have come directly from Prestige or van Gelder to Decca before end of 1958 to press on to better vinyl than the US pressing. Superb Hard Bop session with pairs of trumpets and Altos on the front line, Tommy Flanagan in the piano seat and Philly Joe Drumming. The interplay, as you would expect, is thrilling in places. You will know the story of these by now, these Esquires are a little bit of magic, in that they are original 50s Prestige Metalwork recorded and mastered by Rudy Van Gelder (hand etched RvG in the dead wax), sent to the UK and pressed for the label by Decca, whose quality standard and vinyl was amongst, (if not the) best in the world back then. They are an upgrade on the US originals. Recently the London Jazz Festival devoted an online exhibition to them, which can still be viewed. So I am sitting here listening to the last track of the last side, and this is alive. I have it on an Ortofon Mono cartridge. The horn tone and piano are incredible. This is a VG++ visual condition lp, with a feelable mark (shown in pic) of about 1cm to side one which tics, but apart from that, it plays about excellent. . We offer massive postage subsidies to overseas buyers on multiple purchases. i.e £1 extra per lp to a maximum of £15, then no extra charge. We pack carefully in custom made hard card boxes. If the appearance or playgrade suggests it requires it, our records are cleaned on a wash and vac machine, using art du son fluid in distilled water. This is already in a new heavy poly outer with antistatic inners added with outer sleeve and records all layered behind each other to prevent splits.
