DESCRIPTION: You can't find a much better produced and performed record than this gem! Many groups used the name "The Velvetones" in the 1940s, '50s and '60s, the first group by that name recording all their music in the late '40s to 1950 on such 78 rpm labels as Sonora, Coronet, Columbia, etc. It wasn't until the late '50s that the Velvetones, whose record is now up for auction, began recording. Their first disk, issued in 1957) just happens to be this recording, and a more beautifully blended group of voices couldn't have been found to bring out all the beauty of the lovely Glory of Love. They borrowed a little from the past (the narrative a la Ink Spots spoken as they are singing, and the song Glory of Love, which became a #1 hit for Benny Goodman in 1936), and from the 1950s they used techniques from other R&B groups of that era. All-in-all, this song is rich with the magic this marvelous black group conjured up, and you'll want to make a CD of it after your purchase it just so you can play it over and over without wearing out the original copy! The flip side, I Love Her So, is a killer rocker jump tune. The amazing Velvetones could sing both smooth love ballads and jump songs equally well, and you'll go wild over this song after you hear it! This beautiful copy of this very scarce R&B disk is still in its original Aladdin sleeve. Besides that, this is the very first edition, with "Beverly Hills, California" signified under the label name, as opposed to using Los Angeles as the city's name. You'd better buy this one now!
CONDITION: Except for some very light sleeve scuffs, this record looks in near-new condition. It has all its luster, comes in its original factory sleeve with pictures of some of the Aladdin artists on one side, and sounds like a new record! You won't find this disk in this condition every day! Super record!
NOTE: For those of you who were among my faithful customers in the past, I'm finally back after a 4-month hiatus. I was forced to put my eBay business on the back burner for a few months while taking care of my poor step-brother, who was inflicted with brain cancer, and who recently passed away after tremendous suffering.
