Description
Up for auction is Blue Note BLP 1558, Sonny Rollins Volume 2, an extremely rare and collectible Blue Note from the mid-1950s with a now-historic, storied session that saw many of the post-bop masters come together: Sonny Rollins, Jay Jay Johnson, Horace Silver, Thelonious Monk, Paul Chambers, and Art Blakey.
The sleeve has only one flaw: the gloss/laminate finish on the front cover has begun to peel back every so slightly from the opening, and the top spine has one "ding" in it that cuts through the black to reveal the whitish cardboard below. There is one discolored spot on the back cover. I'll grade it EX+. Liner notes were written by Robert Levin, and the back cover bears the inscription, "for Complete Catalogue Write to BLUE NOTE RECORDS, 47 West 63rd St., New York 23"
The record itself is NM and bears the 47 West 63rd NYC address on the label for both sides. RVG is etched into the vinyl outside the label, as well as the "eye" and BN-LP-1558. No major scratches exist on this beauty, and there are a few extremely minor scuffs on side-A toward the outer edge. The scuffs are nearly imperceptible to the eye.
THIS IS THE ORIGINAL PRESSING OF THIS RECORD. There are plenty of reissues, but you are bidding on the first pressing/first issue.
I am a professor of music who inherited this and other records from a collector a few years back. I am moving across the country for a new position, and I'm selling off a number of valuable records so that collectors/audiophiles can get more enjoyment out of them.
