Description
For your consideration is this nearly pristine 78 rpm record produced by the blues artist John Lee Hooker on the Vee-Jay label in 1959, one of the last pop 78 rpm records pressed in America. One side is Hobo Blues and the other side is Crawlin Kingsnake. Visually the record is in at least a C9:N- condition, except for the slightest spindle bruising of the label, so I'm calling it a C8:E+, but the record could not be brighter and shinier. Interestingly, I was not able to find this record on the Vee-Jay 78 discography - not sure if that speaks to its rarity or not.
Note: I recently acquired a small collection of mostly R&B 78's from the late 1950's, almost all of which are in C9:N- or better condition. The seller could not explain why they are in such exceptional condition, just that they were in her family, but I suspect that the family upgraded to a 45 rpm record player right when these records were purchased, and thus they never got played.
