Description
This item is from a list of mono era collectable opera sets & recitals collected first-hand from a proudly-cherished record collection. As you can see, I have listed the Callas items first, but also included collectable conductors and other soloists who no opera lover would want to exclude. These HMV, Columbia & Decca sets are in beautiful sound, and so well preserved as to be an ideal investment set. These were mainly played once to transfer to reel to reel, and have been stored archivally, as the pristine state of the sleeves and lack of spindle marks confirms. They look unplayed on the whole, incredible for the age of them.
33CX 1723-4 of Lucia Di Lammermoor by Donizetti, conducted by Tullio Serafin featuring Maria Callas. This has that most Iconic of sleeve portraits of the Diva to it, and the pair together are very striking, as you can see. Note that we have the mono only era version listed also this week.
Maria Callas as Lucia, Ferruccio Tagliavini as Edgardo, Piero Cappuccilli as Enrico Asthon, Bernard Ladysz as Raimondo, Leonard Del Ferro as Arturo, Margreta Elkins as Alisa, Renzo Casellato as Normanno with Tullio Serafin conducting The Philharmonia Orchestra and The Philharmonia Chorus and Roberto Benaglio as Chorus Master.
One very light fine stylus/paper scuff mark to side 4 only keeps this from a fully near mint all round grading. On playing it after a clean it did not sound apart from at above natural sound volume it was very background. This will definitely play better than most of your 1950's records.
