Description
I will be adding Jazz lps every day this week, as many as I can make time for. Johnny Griffin & Wilbur Ware Also features Junior Mance, plus Frank Dunlop drums and John Jenkins, Alto. Jazzland JLP-12, Original MONO, 1960 pressing. Johnny Griffin Wilbur Ware Chicago Cookers US JAZZLAND first anywhere issue with the Deep Groove MONO 1st type labels, the personal property of legendary Swing through to Hard Bop Dancer Will Gaines, with a clear signature of his to the rear, but no dedication, so more likely to have just been his record. At first I thought, what a nuisance, someone wrote their name on this, then when I thought it looked like Will Gaines but with an unusual G, I googled examples of his autograph. One of the pictures is a good example on a signed photo (I do not own the photo - it is not part of the sale!), and it is pretty much identical. The main thing about this lp is that is a Jazzland first pressing of a classic hard bop session, so is super cool in its own right, and let's be fair, if you were faking the ownership of this, why pic someone so random as a dancer?. Nice first shop in Germany sticker to rear, which also fits with Gaines being there at this time, a documented fact. Tape around the edges and a fine mark, this played excellent on my Ortofon Mono cartridge.
