In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. ORIGINAL 1960 MONO first print on the "Warwick" label who would release the first LP by the LITTER a few years later.
Considerably more popular in Europe than in their American homeland, Johnny & The Hurricanes were probably at the height of their popularity in 1962 when they toured West Germany with none other than The Beatles as their opening act! Their reputation had been made thanks to hits such as Red River Rock and Beatnik Fly, among others, hits that were effectively derived from older material. Red River Rock, for example, was effectively a re-write of Red River Valley , whilst their second UK hit, Reveille Rock was based on the bugle theme Reveille. Stormsville would become the group's first UK chart album, peaking at #18 in 1960.
It’s difficult to understand the evolution of rock n’ roll. Was it born out of the Delta blues or the Memphis sound? What about Motown’s influence? How about a Catholic high school in Toledo?
With the bawdy John “Johnny Paris” Pocisk and several of his classmates, Johnny and the Hurricanes arranged a frat-rock style with twangy guitars and amazing organ. Five years before The Ventures, The Hurricanes recorded “Red River Rock,” which landed in the Top 5 on both the American and British charts. The band released Stormsville just eight months later.
Stormsville opens with “Reveille Rock,” a funky track with a huge sax and Hammond organ intertwined over an even pace and tempo. “Milk Shake” follows and sounds like something you heard at sock hops, while “Travelin’” features the soft key strokes of the classic organ. “Rockin’ T” be-bops its way around rock rhythms and “The Hungry Eye” goes into the blues a little more. “Time Bomb” and “Corn Bread” are also remnants of the American Graffiti era, and the record closes with the delightful “The ‘Hep’ Canary.” Overall this record captured a whole genre of music without being too pretentious about titles or images.
The Hurricanes went on tour in the early 60s and were opened by a little-known English band called The Beatles. They toured for a few years until the British Invasion blew most other bands away, finally breaking up in 1965. Johnny Paris moved to Germany and reformed the Hurricanes around 1970. Paris passed away at the age of 65, ten years ago.
