Pick A Box was a classic Australian game show that ran first on radio from 1948, then on TV and radio from the late 50s. This record would have been sent to radio stations for broadcast, though the recording is I believe essentially the same as the TV broadcast.
Apparently when the show finally ended in 1971, Bob Dyer, who created and owned the show, destroyed most of the episodes. There are about 60 remaining in the Australian National Film & Sound Archive.
The show’s most famous contestant, Barry Jones, all round smart guy, polymath, and later a well known politician, is mentioned on this show as “Mr Pick A Box”, but doesn’t appear on it.
The ads for BP petroleum with benzene, and BP Zoom are fairly cute examples of their kind.
Very rare, but very scratchy.
Why Buy A Record From Me?
As a fellow music fan and record collector, I want to make sure you know exactly what you are getting when you buy a record from me.
Each record is cleaned in a cleaning machine with a professional cleaning solution, then played to evaluate the condition and correct grading, then placed in a new, quality anti-static inner sleeve.
Record covers are also carefully cleaned, any loose seams (if any) are re-glued.
I give an accurate grading of the record and cover, so when you get it, there are no surprises.
Grading
Records are graded on a scale from Poor to Mint, generally following The Goldmine system of record grading. I would seldom list anything below VG unless it is particularly rare.
M NM+ NM VG+ VG G+ G P
Covers are given a rating out of 10 - with 10 being Mint.
Some people only give a visual grading, so you can’t actually tell how the vinyl plays.
Postage
Singles are sent in rigid heavyweight cardboard at registered letter rate within Oz. Overseas regular parcel rates with tracking apply.
LPs are sent in professional quality cardboard record mailers, usually new, sometimes recycled.
Any particularly rare or valuable record will be carefully packed and sent in a box.
That way you know, when you buy a record from me, you get exactly what you were expecting.
