Original Recording By text labels English Decca SXL 2173 in its first anywhere issue. Wide Band grooved FFSS labels to this majestic recording from Clifford Curzon with Sir Adrian Boult & the London Philharmonic. The Grieg Concerto, Litolff Scherzo and Franck Variations. Darker sleeve than all other issues, this is closer to Maroon than the usual red, with the earliest curved cut flip back sleeve. There is no blue back of these ED1 English pressings. Never bettered let alone 20th Century definitive account of the three works for me, I have every Decca of Curzon in my personal collection, I just think him the finest British pianist. Nice to be offering this when the recording arrives at its 64th year of age. Heard throughout on a high end system after a wash and vacuum, played fully near mint, in gorgeous warm valve tube audiophile stereo, despite the presence of two shallow non feelable visual marks. This is one of the greatest accounts of the two works here of the vinyl era. Nice clean low plays for its age example in great sound.
