Description
1960s Jose Hernandez / Alcides Dorado Argentinean Poetry LP (Martin Fierro)
Jose Hernandez - “Martin Fierro”, narrated by Alcides Dorado (SMC Ori-Arte 1095). Excellent early 1960s (pre-1963) rendition of “Martín Fierro”, a 2,316 line epic poem by the Argentine writer José Hernández. The poem supplied a historical link to the gauchos' contribution to the national development of Argentina, for the gaucho had played a major role in Argentina's independence from Spain. The poem, written in a Spanish that evokes rural Argentina, is widely seen as the pinnacle of the genre of "gauchesque" poetry (poems centered on the life of the gaucho, written in a style that evokes the rural Argentine ballads known as payadas) and a touchstone of Argentine national identity. It has appeared in literally hundreds of editions and has been translated into over 70 languages. Contents of the Lp include: “La frontera (9:45); “El desertor (5:07)”; “El gaucho cruz (9:45)”; “Regreso de Martín Fiérro (6:05)”; “La cautiva ; El viejo viscacha (6:45)”; “La payada (6:33)”; and “Consejos de Martín Fiérro.” Record and cover are in strong VG+ to M- condition (has store sticker on cover). Postage will be paid by purchaser
