We go to estate sales regularly and come across a wide array of unique and rare items. We add to our growing online inventory daily. We pick up new items from all over the world and all over the US. We purchased a large album collection from a former DJ for a local Atlanta area radio station, WBLJ in Dalton, GA, back in the 1950s-1970s awhile back. We've picked up several other collections over the years as well. Quite a few of the albums are promotional albums and cover several different genres of music from classical to jazz to pop to folk to blues to rock and everything in between. We'll be listing them individually and in lots over the coming weeks and months since it will take awhile to list so many albums. Now onto the item for sale.
For sale is a copy of The Sonny Stitt Quartet: The Hard Swing LP released by Verve in the U.S. in 1961.
This album is the second stereo pressing released in 1961, whereas the first pressing was released two years earlier. In case you missed it in the pictures above, the catalog number on the front and back of the cover are MG V-8306 which indicates the first mono pressing, but there is also a 'Verve Stereo' sticker applied near the top right corner on the front of the cover. The labels both have 'STEREO V6-8306' on them which is the catalog number for the second stereo pressing. Obviously, Verve had some leftover mono covers from 1959 that they used for the second stereo pressings.
The vinyl on this album is really clean, particularly given it's 66 years old, with a only few very light to really light and small scratches on each side, but it could use a quick cleaning.
In addtional to the scratches, there are a some light fingerprints and marks on the vinyl it's picked up over the decades. They will certainly come off with a proper cleaning, such as an ultrasonic cleaning. There are plenty of sites online as well that show you how to properly clean vinyl without an ultrasonic cleaning machine.
We'd estimate this album to be in very good plus to excellent condition after a proper cleaning.
PLEASE NOTE: We do not play test albums, as that would take us a lifetime to do for the hundreds of albums we list very year. We give a visual description and estimated grade of the vinyl. Please see the pictures above and description below for an idea of the condition of the labels, sleeve and album cover. If there are any condition issues that you can't see, such as seam splits, scratches or spots on the vinyl, we will indicate that in the description.
The labels on the album are really clean and in excellent to near mint condition.
The inner sleeve is in excellent condition with no seam splits, but it has discolored a bit and has a couple wrinkles near the corners.
The cover is in very good plus condition with no seam splits, but a previous owner thought it would be a good idea to write his name on the back.
This album will be shipped in a record shipping box via media mail with the USPS. We wrap all of our albums in two layers of bubble wrap and then add a piece of cardboard on each side for extra protection during shipping.
