One of a nice collection of Classical rarities we have just had in, a single cherished and many barely played lps.
Decca (UK) Stereo LP, SXL SXL 6036 Borodin Quartet in Borodin 2nd Qt & the Shostakovich 8th Qt.
This may well be the single greatest quartet stereo recording in the decca catalogue, and I speak from experience as I have them all. The original line up Borodins are without parallel in my experience. When they toured the UK I took time off to see every date, I was so impressed. This account of the second just edges the very impressive ASD of the pair by their namesake composer I also have listed this week.
"Original Recording By" labels and an ffss inner. Best 1E1E stampers.
1st type flipback Sleeve, dated 1962 by the printer.
I would call this an excellent to near mint lp with excellent playback, some tics and pops were heard at the end of the Shostakovich, so they are old dust mainly as the lp is clean with no feelable marks. The Borodin played Near mint throughout on my high end system, without a clean.
