Description
1962 Georgia Lee Sings The Blues Down Under Rare Oz Blues Jazz Original Vinyl
Georgia Lee Sings The Blues Down Under
Georgia Lee
1962 Crest Record Co, Melbourne CRT-12-LP-004
Vinyl shows some scratching, plays with moderate crackle, Good condition, 6 out of 10.
Centre label has a Chapel sticker on one side, and shows a little rubbing on the other side.
Cover shows some discolouration and stains on the back, wear at corners, small tear on opening edge on back, front is quite good, very presentable, 7 out of 10.
Famous for being the first album recorded by an Australian Indigenous woman, and the first Australian album recorded in stereo, it is also a superb and classic album of jazz and blues, featuring Georgia Lee’s bold, rich, melodious and sassy voice.
Rightly listed in the archives of important works in the National Registry of Recorded Sound, which you can see here;
https://aso.gov.au/titles/collections/sounds-of-australia/ https://aso.gov.au/titles/music/georgia-lee-sings-the-blues/
It has been rereleased on CD and download, well worth finding just to listen, though not quite as good as having the original vinyl.
From what I can find out the last time a copy came up for sale was about 10 years ago, so it seems both exceptioanlly scarce, an important Australian album, and just overall a great listen.
