We go to estate sales regularly and come across a wide array of unique and rare items. We add to our growing online inventory daily. We pick up new items from all over the world and all over the US. We purchased a large album collection from a former DJ for a local Atlanta area radio station, WBLJ in Dalton, GA, back in the 1950s-1970s awhile back. We've picked up several other collections over the years as well. Quite a few of the albums are promotional albums and cover several different genres of music from classical to jazz to pop to folk to blues to rock and everything in between. We'll be listing them individually and in lots over the coming weeks and months since it will take awhile to list so many albums. Now onto the item for sale.
For sale is a copy of Johnny Hodges/Billy Strayhorn and The Orchestra LP released by Verve Records in the U.S. in 1962.
PLEASE NOTE: We do not play test albums, as that would take us a lifetime to do for thousands of albums. We give a visual description and estimated grade of the vinyl. Please see the pictures above for an idea of the condition of the labels, sleeves and album cover or box, if a box set. If there are any condition issues that you can't see, such as seam splits, scratches or spots on the vinyl, we will indicate that in the description.
The vinyl on the album is really clean, particularly given it's 63 years old, with some really light scratches on side one and only a couple of scratches on side two.
In addition to the scratches described above, there are several light smudges and marks that we see often see on vintage vinyl. They will certainly come off with a proper cleaning, such as an ultrasonic cleaning. There are plenty of sites online as well that show you how to properly clean vinyl without an ultrasonic cleaning machine. We'd estimate this album to be in very good to very good plus condition after a proper cleaning.
The labels are very clean and in excellent condition.
The sleeve is in very good plus condition with no seam splits and a bit of yellowing one would expect on these old sleeves.
The cover is in very good condition with a 3/4" seam split on the far right of the bottom edge. The two right corners got dinged a bit in years past as well and a previous owner thought it would be a good idea to write his name on the back.
This album will be shipped in a cardboard album box via media mail with the USPS.
