Up for auction is the rare 1963 US original Jazz Blues Gospel LP "Black Christ of the Andes" by Mary Lou Williams on Mary (Folkways) Records #FJ 2843. This is the original pressing in mono. Visually graded using Goldmine standards, I would rate the vinyl as an Ex with beautiful shine and just a hint of surface wear. The beautifully illustrated jacket is also excellent with no splits, but one knick at the top and a hint of ring wear. Comes with original Folkways insert. Overall a beautiful top notch copy of this sought after record. Low starting bid and no reserve! Record will be shipped in a sturdy record mailer with LP outside the jacket in a protective sleeve.
Mary Lou Williams (born Mary Elfrieda Scruggs; May 8, 1910 – May 28, 1981) was an American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger. She wrote hundreds of compositions and arrangements, and recorded more than one hundred records (in 78, 45, and LP versions). Williams wrote and arranged for such bandleaders as Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman, and she was friend, mentor, and teacher to Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Tadd Dameron, Dizzy Gillespie, and many others.
