Jarvis and The Rocky Mountain Boys ... a fine gospel group — a group that has appeared throughout the United States at churches, sings, radio stations, and television stations. On the front cover is a picture of J. D. Jarvis, his guitar player, Elmer Reed; his banjo player Ernie Wells; and J.D.’s son, Lucky. Also pictured are two good friends of J.D. . . . Reverend John Carter (Highway of Holiness Church, R.F.D. No. 4, Hamilton, Ohio) and Brother Jason Tarter. For variety and a bit of spice, J.D. used quite a set of instruments in addition to his guitar and banjo player. One of the more unusual instruments was a “Dobro.” The “Dobro” is a rather odd looking guitar that is one of the early predecessors of the electric guitar in that it has a built in resonator to amplify the volume of its notes. Gene Sweet of Cincinnati, Ohio, masterfully plays the “Dobro” on this recording. In addition to the “Dobro,” J.D. used Roger Smith on fiddle, Vernon Bowling on bass, and Clyde Tuttle on mandolin. Vernon McQueen also sings high tenor with J.D. Without the aforementioned side men this album would not have been possible and J.D. wishes to extend his deepest thanks to all for their patient and understanding help. This record, J. D. Jarvis’ second for Gospel Gems, con- tains several selections which he wrote: the title song, “Take Your Shoes Off Moses”; “It’ll All Be Over After While”; and “Nights and Molights.” J.D.’s first record, a single, contained the selections “Trying To Get Home” and “On My Way To Caanan’s Land.” It was only after the success of this record that J.D. decided to make a long play album. Interestingly, J. D. Jarvis is a self-employed interior and exterior decorator who lives and works in Hamilton, Ohio.
