Here is another item from the Craig Warren vintage Batman collection. Featured in a recent Scoop spotlight article, the entire collection is going up for auction (only), here and also in conjunction with Hake’s Americana over the upcoming weeks/months. There will be an incredible array of items available, all hand selected to be the finest quality extant. There are pieces not found in ANY other collection, right down to the mundane, all in magnificent condition, all guaranteed original and all from the period of 1966 to 1969. The collection is the result of more than two decades of diligent searching and is arguably among the finest such collections in the country.
Thanks to all that made this collection possible and also to all the friends found along the way, but it is now time to end the quest and liquidate. Our descriptions will be briefer than usual, in order to concentrate on bring more items to you faster. However, our high definition pictures will speak much more eloquently than we ever could.
Between seasons One and Two of the ABC Batman TV show that starred Adam West, Burt Ward and, arguably, the fantastic George Barris styled Batmobile, a feature film was created. All the regular characters and actors (except for the curvaceous Julie Newmar as Catwoman) were in the film, initially intended to be released BEFORE the rush debuted TV show. It was thought that the audience might first need some introduction to the stylizations of the show.
As was typical for all movies of the period, the studio, 20th Century Fox, created a myriad of publicity vehicles for advertisement of the film, all documented in the pressbook printed for the film. But we present here the most unique of all the items made for this Batman feature film, a very rare, single-sided record of on-air Radio Spots advertisements for the Batman feature film. Pressed at 33RPM on a unique 9 3/4" diameter disc, the record contains six different commercials, ranging in length from 20 seconds to 1 minute, all featuring the actual voices of Adam West and Burt Ward. Issued only to radio stations and certainly almost universally discarded once the paid campaign had been completed, it is all but impossible to find these promotional only records anymore. Note that such radio spots discs rarely had any special sleeves or covers, since they were considered "utility" items and were not attempting to grab anyone's attention.
With a rear surface that had just a plain white label and no grooves whatsoever, the large size of the disc actually made for easier storage and access of the individually banded segments. ("Banding" means that there was no trailing goove that exited one cut leading to the next. When a segment was played, the record could not advance to the next segment and thus there was no possibility of another commercial from the disc spilling over onto the air inadvertently.) A small spindle central hole indicates that this was clearly not a 45rpm disc and the correct speed is also printed right on the brilliant green label. Dominating the label is the 20th Century Fox logo. Beneath the center hole is the track listing, showing one 20 second cut, one 60 second cut and four 30 second cuts, so that the station could vary the commercials played over the air, depending on the advertisement time purchased by the studio and/or the local theater.
Note that the the record master for this pressing had "Batman" etched into the trail out, dead wax. Clearly an original 1966 release and not a repress or reproduction of any kind, the record shows a but a few compromises. Naturally, the rear surface shows some scuffing, but hey, there is nothing there to play! On the face, we see some label spindle marks and some light scuffing only. The label is quite clean, totally legible, and, unusual for a station used item, NO writing or marking on the label! We have not play graded this disc, and offer visual grading only for it. There is some light wear and spiderweb surface scuffing to the vinyl. Although there are several small very short scratches in the disc, there appears to be no damage that would impede its play. If you desire strictly Mint items, please do not bid for this is NOT mint. We grade the disc a VG or C7-.
Finding one of these babies in better condition is extraordinarily difficult. In more than 20 years of collecting, we have had but FOUR copies of this record and this one displays absolutely superbly, with great contrast and a minimum of wear. A delight to see, this difficult to find release is a must-have for promo record, Batman, character or TV collectors alike. Because of its extreme rarity, we must place a reserve on this item. Please do not ask us to close the auction early, sell the item outright or reveal our Reserve, as these are requests we cannot accommodate, for the protection of our Consignor.
Please note that we will be away and unable to ship any parcels or send any Invoices from Thursday, April 3, 2008 until Tuesday, April 8, 2008. Sorry for any inconveniences, but another trip out of state calls us. We will be back to normal beginning on April 9th once again.

We have experienced a great difficulty with Invoice delivery recently and have no way of verifying whether Invoices have been received or not. It is YOUR responsibility to contact us if no Invoice is received!
