WHY PICK ON ME
SOMETIMES GOOD GUYS DON'T WEAR WHITE
\ USA - TOWER RECORDS - T 5044
HARD TO FIND **CLEAN** 1966 MONO ORIGINAL....
The 1966 Original second TOWER LABEL STANDELLS album, a great garage punker with killer songs from start to finish ...in glorious MONO ...the monophonic issue delivering that bold punch sound production which suits this tough garage sound perfectly ...also different song mixes from the stereo release.
The Standells made number 11 in 1966 with "Dirty Water," an archetypal garage rock hit with its Stonesish riff, lecherous vocal, and combination of raunchy guitar and organ. They cut a number of strong, similar tunes in the 1966-67 era that have been recognized as '60s punk classics. "Garage rock" was a coin phrase centered on this group with some imaginative touches of period psychedelia and poprock mixed in their snarly tough & cool infectious tunes. Their image considerably toughened, the group churned out four albums in 1966 and 1967, as well as appearing in (and contributing the theme song to) the psychedelic exploitation movie Riot on Sunset Strip ...
"Why Pick On Me" was released later in the year of 1966 (right after their "Dirty Water" first album) and the Standells hit pay dirt again with a terrific one-two combination punch of solid garage punk nuggets in "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Where White" and "Why Pick On Me", the album with the same working title is every bit as strong as their first with solid 'garage rock' numbers littered along both sides; "Mainline", "Black Hearted Woman", "Mr Nobody" and so on, which makes it very sought after & collectible some 43 years after the release.....
