Description
Selling off my signed record album collection of 4 decades. This is a classic jazz album entitled "The Thelonious Monk Story". It is a 2 LP record set that was released in 1967 on the great RIVERSIDE jazz label. The catalogue # is RIVERSIDE9483. The album is a retrospective of Monk's most iconic recordings from the 1950's. Please see photos 16 & 17 for the tune titles. What makes this item special is that it has been personally signed by some of the greatest musicians of that time. Signatures include Thelonious Monk; Donald Byrd; John Coltrane; Coleman Hawkins; Thad Jones; Gerry Mulligan; Max Roach; Sonny Rollins; and Clark Terry. All of these musicians (and many more) played on the original tracks which were compiled, re-mastered and re-released on this RIVERSIDE 2 record set. There is no certificate of authenticity on these signatures and the seller cannot guarantee all are original but compared to other known examples, they look true. Collectors know that John Coltrane's signature sells for 4 figures often (when it is rarely found). Selling the album at age 77 because the grandkids just wouldn't appreciate the music or the autographs. Also have many of the same signatures on photos of the artists in a jazz portfolio. Asking a hefty amount but it is likely one of a kind. Please note that Clark Terry also drew a trumpet after his signature!
