This album has a special place; it's the first time in the history of Canadian recordings that a single long play album has been devoted exclusively to previously unpublished songs.

The 12 tunes recorded here were chosen from more than 3,000 entries submitted to CBC Song Market--Canada's first national popular songwriting competition, organized and produced by CBC Radio. The winning song, "Kiss the Wind", was written by Bruce Barrie, a 22 year old contractor from Prince George, British Columbia.

It was originally intended that only the winning song would be recorded, but as each of the 11 Song Market broadcasts produced more and more exciting new material, it became obvious that an album of songs was the only solution. Recognition must also be given here to the to the many fine musicians, arrangers, and singers who have made the unknown songs in this album worth knowing. (from the liner notes by Alan Millar, host and writer of CBC Song Market)
