PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. SCARCE 1967 MONO ORIGINAL ON "VERVE" RECORDS!
JAMESON
COLOR HIM IN
USA - VERVE RECORDS - V - 5015 (MONO)
CLEAN Original 1967 first pressing in glorious MONO by Southern California hipster "JAMESON" who paired up with super producer Curt Boettcher ...
Robert Parker Jameson was somewhat of a famous scenester in the 1960's Los Angeles music scene who appeared on American Bandstand singing his debut 1964 single I Wanna Love You, opened for The Beach Boys, recorded an obscure 45 in London for Decca and Andrew Loog Oldham (who co-wrote the A-side with Keith Richards, the rare Jagger/Richards track "Each and Every Day of The Year" was on the flip) and had to release his debut album ("Songs of Protest and Anti-Protest" Mira, 1965) under another name because the sleeves had already been prepared for another singer, Chris Lucey! Following two more singles on the Penthouse label (one of which was arranged by Frank Zappa!), Jameson joined Steve Clark's famous "Our Productions" roster and headed into the studio with an up and coming arranger named Curt Boettcher, fresh from numerous hit singles. The Summer of Love saw Verve Records release "Color Him In" alongside their other summer hopefuls, The Mothers Of Invention "Absolutely Free" and Janis Ian's self-titled debut. Whew!
So what does this record sound like? For those of you who need a fix sunny California grooves you get the supreme psych/sunshine pop producer Curt Boettcher here. Featured star Jameson is far from the best singer and his songwriting is varied, but the real star of the show is the psychedelic production gauze slathered over most of the tracks. We get Boettcher's signature background vocal arrangements wafting through the mix, as well as occasional blasts of unidentifible backwards insanity. Even the lesser tracks end up with a production treatment or two well worth hearing.
"Jamie" is a fine opening track, and makes you think that Mr. Jameson may well be a worthy score. The blue-eyed soul caterwauling of "Right By My Side," features tripped out vocals and fourth dimensional fade-out to the song which should still hold your attention. We also come across tracks like the handclap-driven "Windows and Doors" and the truly weird "The New Age" which reeks of Arthur Lee & Love circa theit first '66 Lp... Truthfully, the album does contain tracks like the twee confections of "Candy Colored Dragon". You'll still find the occasional production tweek to make a note of on your musical scorecard.
If the name 'Curt Boettcher' means nothing to you, by all means seek out the Millennium's "Begin," which also happens to be the very first post at the psychedelic garage. Those of you already indoctrinated will definitely find a few pleasures here.

The vinyl: "EX" (excellent) ...all clean and free from scuffs & scratches, a little hazy but play grade was an enjoyable affair ... both Verve labels are clean
