1967 Maria Toledo Latin Sings the Best of Luiz Bonfa M- LP
Maruia Toledo – “Sings the Best of Luiz Bonfa” (United Artists UAS 6584). Great 1967 LP by the underrated but highly skilled Brazilian vocal stylist, famous for her partnership with Luiz Bonfá and for having been the first Brazilian singer to record with Stan Getz. Toledo was married to Bonfa and, in 1967, Luiz Bonfá persuaded his friend Henry Jerome to sign Maria Helena Toledo as a solo artist for the United Artists label. The result was this LP which was arranged & conducted by Eumir Deodato, with an all-star cast: Ron Carter, Dom Um Romão, Bobby Rosengarden and Tony Motolla, amongst others. This was Deodato's first session in the USA, recorded a week after he arrived in NY invited by Luiz Bonfá, who paid his airflight ticket and also provided Deodato with enough work so as to allow him a minimum income in his first year in the Big Apple. The album features 11 cuts, including: “Se Eu Pudesse Voltar”; “Oba-Oba”; “Kalue”; “Mundo Perdido”; “Estrelinha”; “Samba De Orfeu”; “Manha De Carnival”; “Menina Flor”; “Samba De Duas Notas”; “Passarinho”; amd “O Sol Nascera.” Record and cover (shrinkwrap) are in M- condition. Postage will be paid by purchaser.
