Note! NO surface noise as found in the also scarce USA reissue on the mighty Void label. The difference is the void reissue produced the demo/acetate "as is" (crackle/surface noise) while the Akarma issue (here) cleared away the surface through digital means ..and overall is the best pressing as you get a *clean* sound ...

LP #1  ....The LOST album by HUNGER! is the FIRST incarnation of HUNGER! and features the guitar work of Ed King, who would later play with the Strawberry Alarm Clock and Lynyard Skynyrd and was not present on the recording of "Strictly From...Hunger!" ... "The Lost Album" was issued in 1969 as an impossibly rare demo only LP on the "All American Records label" and never was issued commercially on the retail market until almost 30 years later.. The material on the album is heavy psychedelic rock, heavier and more raw than the 'Strictly From' Lp, still with with influences by the Doors and Jefferson Airplane. While the music of Hunger contained a more ominous overtone than most psychedelic music of the era, it did reflect a particular period in the history of the L.A. music scene and contains strong songwriting. Unfortunately, due to some unlucky breaks such and the band's equipment being stolen twice in the same year, the band broke up in the height of their popularity.

The incredible West Coast heavy psych-rock album HUNGER! was originally released in 1969 on the local West Coast "Public Records" label ... the first pressing is one of the most sought after psych artifacts, selling for somewhere in the $1500 range although it keeps going up, not down. The reason being is the album is a thoroughly entertaining full tilt thriller with wall-to-wall infectious (to the max) self penned gems...

Hunger! was originally from Portland, OR, but moved to Los Angeles in the late '60s and began to attract some attention by being an opening act for such top bands as The Doors and The Strawberry Alarm Clock. In 1968 the band released its only album, "Strictly From Hunger!", which became top sought by psychedelic collectors and established the band firmly in the California psychedelic hard rock scene. The album that was originally released for the Public label in 1969, was the second incarnation of the same album that originally featured the guitar work of Ed King, who would later play with the Strawberry Alarm Clock and Lynyard Skynyrd. The material on the album was heavy psychedelic rock, with influences from the Doors and Jefferson Airplane. While the music of Hunger contained a more ominous overtone than most psychedelic music of the era, it did reflect a particular period in the history of the L.A. music scene and contained some strong songwriting.

The group featured long organ driven instrumental breaks with piercing guitar & weaving organ lines between some strong songwriting in a majority of their songs. Songs like "Workshop," which delves into your thought processes and dreams, which are very introspective and thought provoking, and great musically. "She Let Him Continue" is a psych-rock gem from the vaults. With all of the sound effects (which were fairly new at the time) and the strong vocal inflections from the pipes of Bill Daffern (drums), the song still sounds as hauntingly fresh today as the day it was laid down in the studio. Mike Parkinson normally handled all the vocals. John Morton (lead guitar), Steve Hansen (rhythm guitar), Tom Tanory (bass) were the core of the group that supported the great songwriting and vocals. "Portland" has a stunning instrumental passage.The potential for moving more into fusion was evident in their music right from the start. You can hear elements of just about every genre (jazz, blues, pop, rhythm & blues all mixed in the hard-psych whirl), although you must listen very carefully to hear it all. Every song serves as an excellent example of the cross pollination of genres. They were so much more than the psych-rock band which makes "Strictly From Hunger" generally perceived as one of the best US psych LPs ever released!

Someone really "dropped the ball" on this group - they should have been major stars....

CONDITION: The covers: rated: SEALED ...both THICK covers NEVER OPENED and in perfect condition  ...housed in a box outer cover (mint/shrink) ...again, both records have NEVER been played!  There are no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, and no writing  ... VERY collection worthy ...

      A cool addition to anyone's music library!
