TOP MINT VINYL 1968 first pressing in old unipak gatefold cover on the highly collected GOLD Elektra label that includes the original Elektra inner sleeve to the pressing....
Great baroque psych by academy trained classical musicians. Would deserve this note for the longest track 'And How Am I To Know'! In the right head space it is entirely imaginative, entertaining, and at times very beautiful. Perhaps even, The best track may be "March of the Mad Duke's Circus". Monumental. A very underestimated band.
In a search to elevate the standard of rock, many groups shared the desire to marry their rock music with classical compositions. Ars Nova succeed better than most in making a convincing attempt, since their brand of cross-over incorporates not only baroque instrumentation in a psychedelic environment, but also baroque composition techniques as fugas, chorales and pavanes, often scored with lavish backing arrangements and guitar. On their first album, produced by Paul Rothschild of DOORS fame, they also write lovely tunes and the whole album does, surprisingly enough, not becomes as pretentious as it could have been, the name of the band notwithstanding. Two of the tracks are great covers of underground psych classics (Fields Of People by The Move and I Wrapped Her ln Ribbons by Galliard, both U.K. bands!). Other highlights include March Of The Mad Duke's Circus, with vaguely renaissance-like harmonies and General Clover Ends A War, a bitter and driven satire on military affairs. Most tracks were penned by Wyatt Day, sometimes helped by Jon Pierson. Greg Copeland, a young songwriter also working with Steve Noonan and Jackson Browne, wrote the lyrics of four songs.

CONDITION: The Cover: is the old unipack gatefold and for this one, almost always found with shelf wear being 42 years old and a dark cover, VG++ to "EX" (excellent) with very little shelf wear, a little on back, the front is solid. Altogether keeper collectible. Stiff, sharp and solid all over...No split seams, no bends, no writing.
The Vinyl: is all clean and glossy smooth M- ...looks outstanding and has CLEAN Gold Elektra labels...
