He is married to the former Miss Gwen Manning, Spears- ville, Louisiana. They have one teen-aged daughter, Paula Kay Carraway. Mr. Carraway and his family make their home in Shreveport, Louisiana. The title, “THE SINGING ENGINEER,” was given to Mr. Carraway because of his service for a number of years as a locomotive engineer for the Kansas City Southern and Louisiana and Arkansas Railway. He surrendered to the ministry of music in evangelism during a Billy Graham Crusade some years ago. James Carraway, recognized as one of the leading baritone soloists in America today, has led the music in over 700 revival meetings and has directed great crusade choirs for many of the nation’s leading evangelists. Mr. Carraway received his education at Sarepta and Minden High Schools in Louisiana, attended the Northeast Louisiana State College in Monroe, Louisiana, and the Conservatory of Music in Seattle, Washington. For many years Mr. Carraway has presented a program of sacred music on both radio and television entitled “Sacred Hymn Time.” Other recordings available for your listening pleasure are ZLP-631 “I’m Just A Singing Pilgrim” and Americana Record- ing AR LPMS 2030 “Beyond The Sunset.” James Carraway is an ordained minister of the gospel, having served Pastorates in Louisiana and Texas. He definitely feels that his calling is in the field of music for evangelism and now devotes his entire time to this ministry. Initially recorded mono under the label No. ZLP-684. Americana Recording Studio has reengineered the master tape for fully separated stereo and hi fidelity. The reprocessing has been accomplished through the use of the new 24 x 8 Neumann Control Console System, The master lacquer was cut by Americana with the Neumann VMS-66 and the SX-68 Computerized Stereo Transfer System.
