PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. The album is of note to psych collectors... besides the timeless hits, Wheatfield Soul features the Guess Who's answer to The DOORS "The End" with a fantastic trippy "Friends Of Mine" - a long visionary Morrison-esque masterpiece. This album has shows the versatility of The Guess Who.
Including the massive "These Eyes" hit, there are wonderful melodies in I Found Her In A Star & A Wednesday In Your Garden, and psychy moves all over the place with knife scraping guitar freak-outs in Friends Of Mine ... this is arguably The Guess Who's finest album...
The Guess Who were a virtual hit making machine in the 60's through mid 70's. Led by Burton Cummings smokey, soulful readings, and Randy Bachman's instinctive guitar chops, this band had hooks, skill, and pop perfection sensibility to burn. This album is very indicitive of what was happening with many bands of the time. Stretching songs to 6 plus minutes, exploring political, sexual and "chemical" themes was almost mandatory by the time this album was released (1969). What makes "Wheatfield Soul" so indespensible, however, is it's complete, full on assault of ALL these themes plus a solid dose of the usual pop excellence. "These Eyes" and "Pink Wine Sparkles in the Glass" are exactly why everyone who loved the Guess Who truly loved them. Tight poprock masterpieces. The remainder of the album, however, is where things get real interesting. Cummings was wholly unafraid to drop names (Lennon-McCartney) or give nod to his influences (Jim Morrison on "Friends of Mine"). In fact, the reason that the legendary "Friends of Mine" succeeds so completely is because the Morrison influence is so firmly worn on the sleeve. Yeah, it's not "The End", but admit it...everybody loves the line "and Kurt is the Walrus, and the Walrus does funny things with veins in his left arm".
The last album featuring Randy Bachman, a bit of evertything '69, "Wheatfield Soul" excels on all levels.
