Description
1969 first off the presses 1A1A stampered Uk Deram Mono DML 1030 John Surman Self titled debut as a leader, with Harry Beckett & Dave Holland in a great pair of bands to this, modern standards to side one, ending with Rollins Carnival, and a suite of three tunes composed by the leader to side 2 - more joyous than stern though, as both sides include Errol Philip, a conga player alongside the drummer, Stirling Betancourt, who only plays Timbales in the suite. A great indicator of things to come in the ECM years, already a brilliant Baritonist. This is a great, even classic British Jazz lp on a very collectable label. Every time the record guide is published, this goes up in value, so your money is safe when you bid generously on this. Record is a lovely near mint, with little sign of much turntable time around the spindle hole, and clean playing surfaces with no scratches. One sticker and a sticker scar to rear, as shown in the 3rd pic.Front is clean and spine is intact. The record is flat and plays near mint. I heard it on a good recent mono cart, but records pressed this late in the 60's play fine with a stereo cart as well. I will add a proper period lined decca inner to this.
